General
Children are placed with us through local child welfare authorities. Most children come from situations of abuse, neglect, or abandonment and need a safe and stable home environment.
Every situation is different. Some children stay for a short period while family situations are resolved, and others for longer periods as the local government determines the best long term home. Our goal is always the long-term well-being and stability of each child.
Yes, when it is safe and appropriate, we support and work toward healthy family reunification. When reunification is not possible, the local authorities may seek in country adoption options.
Hogar de Vida is a Christian ministry that provides safe homes, education, and spiritual care for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or abandonment in Costa Rica and Guatemala. Our goal is not only to meet physical needs, but to help each child experience healing, stability, and most importantly, the love of Christ.
You can sign up for our newsletter to receive ministry updates, prayer requests, and stories of how lives are being changed at Hogar de Vida.
Our greatest ongoing needs are monthly financial partners, prayer support, and churches who want to partner with us through teams and long-term relationship.
Monthly giving allows us to plan, budget, and provide consistent care for the children. Because the needs of the children are ongoing every day, monthly support is the most helpful and sustainable way to partner with Hogar de Vida.
Giving & Sponsorship
The best way to support Hogar de Vida is by becoming a monthly partner. Monthly giving provides consistent care for the children, including food, housing, education, medical care, and daily needs.
Donations support the daily care of the children, including:
- Food and household needs
- Education and school supplies
- Medical and dental care
- Caregivers and staff
- Maintenance and transportation
- Spiritual discipleship and activities

Yes, gifts can be made in honor or memory of someone. Many people choose to give for birthdays, anniversaries, or special events.
Teams & Visits
We host organized teams from churches, schools, and groups who come to serve, build relationships, and learn about the ministry. Because we are a children’s home, we are not able to host individual visitors or drop-in volunteers.
We primarily host organized teams rather than individual volunteers. This helps us protect the children’s environment and ensure visits are meaningful and well-coordinated. If you are interested in bringing a team, we would love to talk with you.
Teams typically help with projects, maintenance, activities with the children, and relationship building with staff and kids. Each trip is planned based on the needs at the time.
Most teams stay about one week, but trip length can vary depending on travel and group availability.
The first step is to contact us through the website. We will schedule a phone call to talk through expectations, timing, and how to prepare your team for a meaningful visit.
Safety & Child Protection
We ask teams and visitors to follow our child protection guidelines regarding photos and social media. Protecting the privacy and dignity of the children is very important to us.
Many of the children we serve come from difficult backgrounds, and we work hard to provide stability, safety, and healthy relationships. Our guidelines help protect the children and maintain a healthy environment for them to grow and heal.
