Editor:  How did you happen to become involved in working in children's homes?

Noemy:  When I was a little girl growing up in Costa Rica I thought often about being a missionary and working and helping children. Then a few years later in 1993 the pastor in the church I belonged to made an announcement that shortly a children's home was going to open in Atenas my home town.  But as it turned out, that did not happen until 1995.

Editor:  Were you disappointed that you could not start work in the children's home immediately?

Noemy:  Yes I was.   But I had a strong sense of assurance that I was to eventually work in a children's home. For the next 2 years, in order to have an income,  I worked at 3 different jobs until the Home of Life for Children opened. I started work on September 11, 1995.

Editor:  Have you enjoyed your work in the children's homes, both here in Guatemala and Costa Rica?

Noemy: Oh for sure.  I'm convinced that God has called me to be where I am. Tim and Dena (Stromstad) are the best teachers a disciple could possibly have.

Editor: I am sure Tim and Dena really appreciate your kind words. What are your hopes for the children under your care here in San Andres Sajcabaja

Noemy:  My desire is that all the children who eventually will leave the home be used of the LORD, and that their lives will be a blessing to others.  Also that they would be servants of our LORD, and as they walk through life, be guided by the Holy Spirit.

Editor:  In April you adopted Ana.  How did that happen and why did you adopt her as your own?

Noemy:  A man came to our door and had this infant girl who was only one day old and wanted us to care for her.  The other option the mother and father had considered was leaving her to die on a garbage heap.  Well after we accepted her, I mulled over the decision for a week of adopting her as my own daughter. You see, 3 years ago a woman in the church had told me that she was praying for me that I would have a child of my own.  After thinking about it and praying I knew that it is the LORD's will for me to be a single mother of this darling little girl, Ana.

Editor: Thank you, Noemy, and may our loving LORD keep His hands upon you two.  Is there anything else that you would like to share with us all?

Noemy: Yes there is. I want to say that I am so very thankful to my LORD Jesus for everything He has given me.  I have received much grace from Him.  It is an honor for me to serve Him here in this home.

Noemy overseas the operation of the home with the help of a staff of 7 salaried employees and a part-time employee, Hector (on the far left) who does the driving of the home's vehicle when needed.

She has the valuable assistance of Amilcar, who is the accountant. Noemy and Amilcar are faith missionaries who receive their financial remunerations from supporters outside of the country.

Editor:  How long have you been involved here at the Home of Life & Nutrition?

Amilcar:  For 3 years.

Editor:  What did you do before you came to help here?

Amilcar:  I taught in the public school here in San Andreas for 23 years and am now on retired status.

Editor:  Does your wife Betty lend a helping hand to the home?

Amilcar:  Yes she prepares the lunches for the members of any work group who come to help us here at the home.  Also she makes cakes and desserts for special occasions we may have for the children.

Editor:  What gives you the most satisfaction about being involved in the home?

Amilcar:  Knowing that this is where God wants me to be and to be involved in helping these children.
